I recall having a stroll of this beautiful city in 2008. Things have changed. The sea is no longer a straight line - you will find sky scrappers around but it luckily is not a cuboid - those who likes architectures will still be able to absorb the beauty of the buildings around.

Famous places like the House of Gaudis (including Casa Mila), Sagarda Familia, Parc Gueil, should not be missed - no matter as an architectural fan, a cultural fan, a religious person, or just a tourist. Play smart though - buy tickets in advance to jump the queue but most importantly, spend time and be amazed of the wonders in the beautiful. Spend as much time as possible to enjoy the beautiful beaches and stroll along the city - whether by car (yes, I rented a car this time and it was an Audi!), or by train. For those of us there for retreats, worshipping, and masses, it is definitely a good place to reflect, pray, and meditate. But just a note, yes there are a lot of toursts but there are definitely enough places for you to do what you need to do. Sometimes, you do not need to sit. On the run and while walking, your inspiration comes. My lesson learnt from this trip is keep walking and something might pop up. So do not stick to the old rules that you set for yourself, try improvising.

Another place I highly recommend (and that's the reason I hired the car) was Montserrat - a beautiful monastery next to the beautiful mountains with fresh air and great hiking tracks around. Even for myself, whom I hated walking most of the time, not to mention hiking - it was fabulous. I suppose it is the air that attracks you more than anything. All in all, another must go!

Now to eating - paella... everyone eats it. Try searching into restaurants that spontaneously amazes you - as a Chinese you know what oyster sauce tastes like, right? Iberia with oyster sauce was a joyful delight - try it out at Alegra... or even just go for lobsters, you will absolutely like it. Oh but one thing, do not bargain on how they cook it, they know how to cook best.

You might also want to stroll along the markets and explore what they have best for you. Dry food and sweets are surely some treats you will not want to loose. Or might as well get into one of their food stalls and get a drink for you to get off that heat. It will surely be a delight for you. But obviously if you are those who want to avoid the crowds, just go online and search Barcelona restaurants, surely there will be some that is off the tourist areas but still those who can serve you very well. Oh and do not worry about the language, they do speak very good English nowadays
Finally, for sports fan - Barcelona is home to the football team - camp nou is a place to be. Now again, for non-sports attracted personnels, you can definitely skip this but if your other half or partner is so willing to go, let it be and just enjoy the beautiful stadium. They proposed selfies so might as well say cheese on the go.

Cathay Pacific flies daily to London Heathrow / Doha, where you can connect with British Airways at T5 of Heathrow or Qatar Airways - currently there are cheap tickets with Qatar so make good use of those tickets.
Just a kind note for those who will leave Barcelona internationally. If you are those keen shoppers who want to spend the very last minute in Zara or all those Spanish shops, DO NOT cross the border yet! Head for the duty free shops first then head for the zone for your departing flight - and just a kind reminder, arrive at your gate at least 20 minutes prior to departure time if you are flying oneworld, even tough the turn around flight for BA is usually late due to air traffic control.
